From the classroom to a career as Cape Fear holds annual trades fair for high school and college students
CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College held its annual Construction Trade and Apprenticeship Fair Tuesday afternoon at its North Campus.
More than 70 companies participated, representing industries from plumbing and electricity to city services and management.
The fair was open to students in college, as well as students from several New Hanover County high schools.
Nathan Martinez is a freshman at Cape Fear, studying welding technology.
He said speaking with potential employers before graduation was a great opportunity.
“It’s informative, especially with the other companies, that even if I’m not interested by them, it was still good to hear that type of information because its more or less along the lines of what I want to be doing later in the future,” Martinez said.
The fair also allowed high school students to learn about Cape Fear’s Career and College Promise program, where they can dual enroll in high school and college-level classes.
