Frontier Scientific Solutions announces $750 million project at ILM

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A new state-of-the-art, $750 million project coming to Wilmington International Airport was announced on Wednesday.

Wilmington-based Frontier Scientific Solutions is in Phase 1 of building a new facility at the airport.

It will be located along one of ILM’s runways, making moving pharmaceutical products in and out of the country easier.

Frontier has also partnered with Shannon Airport in Ireland, which will provide a facility there to help transport products on that side of the Atlantic.

Frontier CEO Steven Uebele said this project will help save lives by getting products to those who need them quickly.

“And that’s really what our mission is is to stop wasting the product based on storage conditions and going out of environment,” Uebele said. “And we can do that by eliminating these touchpoints and be able to transport directly and safely, we’re able to save that product and again, get to patients that need that. Like in some cases, in a lot of cases, its life saving treatments for them.”

The facility will feature a variety of cold storage units for drugs and vaccines.

ILM Airport director Jeff Bourke said this project will help bring more jobs to the area.

“12 areas under roof here, right behind us, in Phase 1,” Bourke said. “That’s Building 1, Buildings 2 and 3 will more than double that, the number of jobs being created from this is unbelievable.”

Phase 1 of the project should be completed by next August.

Uebele added that by the end of Phase 3, all 3 facilities will employ more than 500 people.
