Funeral planned for veteran killed in moped hit-and-run
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The funeral will be held this weekend for a Bladen County man who was struck and killed while driving a moped in Leland.
Leland Police say Sidney Joe Lanier, 51, was driving a moped when he was struck by a car on Tuesday, July 10.
The accident happened on US Highway 17/74 at the Brunswick River bridge.
Lanier suffered serious injuries and taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he died last Friday.
Police say two cars were recklessly driving and speeding when one of the cars struck the moped.
They’re looking for the driver of a silver colored 2004 to 2008 Toyota Solara with a black convertible top. It should have damage on the front.

Lanier was a United States Marine Corp Veteran and is survived by his brother and sister.
The visitation will be held Saturday from 1-3 p.m. followed by the funeral at 3 p.m at Majestic Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
