BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man will spend at least 25 years in prison after being convicted of multiple charges in Brunswick County Superior Court Wednesday.

21-year-old Lucas Sutton was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle.

A judge sentenced Sutton to 25 years to life in prison, with the possibility of parole, plus 4 to 6 years in the custody of the Department of Adult Corrections.

The district attorney’s office said on March 6, 2022, Sutton, 17-years-old at the time, and two co-defendants, Christopher Brooks and Antwan Throne, ambushed, shot, and killed two people in a cemetery in Northwest.

The DA’s office says the individuals are all part of the Rollin 60s set of the Crips street gang.

“Gang violence has no place in our communities and will not be tolerated. Two young men lost their lives in a senseless and calculated act of violence. Mr. Sutton’s conviction closes the third and final chapter of this horrific novel. We are thankful for the diligent and dedicated efforts of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office,” First Assistant District Attorney Jenna Earley said.
