WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — GE Aerospace plans to invest about $60 million in its Wilmington manufacturing facility as part of a larger $1 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing sites and suppliers in 2026.

The company announced Monday that the funding will support modernization and expansion efforts across more than 30 communities in 17 states. In North Carolina, GE Aerospace plans to invest more than $160 million across multiple sites.

The Wilmington facility will see upgrades aimed at helping the company meet growing demand for aircraft engines and components.

According to GE Aerospace, the investment will fund new advanced machining equipment, upgraded heat treatment furnaces, and building improvements designed to support a growing workforce.

“We’re bringing more equipment online to better serve our customers and meet growing demand, and that is good news for this community as the team grows,” said Mark Moon, site leader for GE Aerospace in Wilmington. “We are all in on U.S. manufacturing, Wilmington, and our customers.”

The Wilmington facility produces components used in engines for narrowbody and widebody aircraft, as well as military fighter jets and ships. Company officials say building upgrades are also planned as part of the investment.

The Wilmington project is part of GE Aerospace’s broader effort to expand production and improve supply chains across the country. The company says the investment will help accelerate engine deliveries, ramp up production of parts that extend the time between maintenance visits, and strengthen defense manufacturing.

GE Aerospace also plans to hire 5,000 workers across the United States in 2026, including manufacturing and engineering roles.

The company says it has announced plans to invest more than $300 million in its North Carolina operations during the past three years, including more than $135 million directed toward the Wilmington facility.

Beyond manufacturing investments, the GE Aerospace Foundation is also supporting workforce development. Last fall, the foundation donated $500,000 to Heroes MAKE America to establish a Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant license training program for service members transitioning to civilian careers.

The training program will be located in Fayetteville near Fort Bragg and is designed to help veterans develop skills needed for careers in aviation maintenance and manufacturing.
