Genesis Block Foundation training the next Entrepreneurs

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —

A few small business owners are a little more knowledgeable when it comes to their start-up plans, thanks to a “Jump Start” from one organization. After every timer ring, it was time for the next business owner to go up front and give it all they got!

It’s like a pitch contest where small business owners present their company’s idea to a panel of judges and walk away with a better plan to start up.
“We’re a full-fledged production company. Wherever you are in your business and your brand and you come to us, we can elevate it through podcasting, commercials, or musical arrangements,” says Harkeem Brantley.
Six other business owners did the same as Brantley but with different industries. It’s through a program called Jumpstart Academy with the Genesis Block Foundation.
“When you tell people you do a production company and I’m black and have dreads, they’re like, ‘Ok. So what? Do you do music?’ but everything you watch or see on TV, you listen to, there’s somebody behind that production,” Brantley says.
“Having a technical skills training program that takes you from the beginning to the end and you weren’t hopping around to different programs, we wanted something that created that type of atmosphere for our founders. So, they can come in and know they went from end to end, validated their business idea,” says Tracey New Kirk.
Tracey and Girard Newkirk are the founders of Genesis Block ILM. It’s an organization that advances small business owners in underrepresented communities.
“They’re the companies that create culture and community for you but don’t get the same level of support, says Tracey.
So, with the right tools and mindset, these business owners can take their ventures to new heights.
