Gesell to start opening day for UNCW baseball

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)–Opening day is now just three days away from UNCW baseball. The Seahawks will kick-off their season at home on Friday afternoon taking on St. Joe’s with a 4:00 P.M. first pitch.

UNCW released their weekend rotation on Tuesday. The Diamond Hawks will start four underclassman this weekend at Brooks Field. Junior right-hander Luke Gesell will get the nod on opening day for head coach Mark Scalf as the Seahawks take on St. Joe’s. Last season Gesell appeared in 21 games finishing 3-2 with a 3.37 ERA.

Saturday the Seahawks will play a double-header against VMI and St. Joe’s. Brody Lawson will get the start in game one, last year’s standout Landen Roupp will start in game two. North Carolina native Gage Herring will take the bump for the Seahawks in the final on Sunday at 1:30 P.M.
