Giving Tuesday: One Columbus County non-profit gives today and everyday
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Today is Giving Tuesday. It’s a global movement inspiring millions of people to give to non-profits.
While many have made donations today, one non-profit in Columbus County said their mission is helping people year-round.
We spoke with ‘Men and Women United for Youth and Families’.
It’s an organization based in Delco that serves people in Columbus, Brunswick, and Bladen counties.
“We wanna be here for the folks that may struggle during this time of the year,” Randolph Keaton, Men and Women United for Youth and Families Executive Director, said.
‘Men and Women United for Youth and Families’ works to promote economic and personal development in rural communities.
The non-profit helps people of all ages in many ways, from assisting them in navigating educational roadblocks, to helping them enhance their social skills, to addressing food insecurity.
Farmer Miya Yates said her role is to help feed families in the area.
“Food insecure households who really need to have the same access to fresh fruits and vegetables and produce as everyone else,” Yates said.
Director of Operations Keith Graham said his ties to the area are one of the reasons he puts so much time and effort into making a difference
“It’s so awesome to be able to come back and serve our community, to be able to give back to our community, whether as a resource or a voice for our community as a local food hub and resiliency hub,” Graham said.
Graham said the non-profit’s dedicated workers are the reason ‘Men and Women United for Youth and Families’ can continue to provide services to Columbus and surrounding counties.
Some of those workers share advice on how to be someone’s helping hand.
“Don’t be afraid to get out there and be different and choose a different path than everybody else,” Youth Volunteer, Travis Campbell, said.
