Good Samaritans return $300, wallet
ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An unusual sight of flying money on NC 210 ended with two good Samaritans in Sneads Ferry.
Monday, some drivers said they saw hundreds of dollars blowing across NC 210 near Old Folkstone Rd. It was a normal, everyday drive down NC 210 that changed when Kelley Sempert noticed something in the road.
“All of a sudden, there was cash flying all over the place,” Sempert said.
She said it was a surreal site.
“Money, like a windfall,” Sempert said.
It would have had many people thinking similar things.
“Wow! I just hit the lottery,” Sempert said.
Sempert said she and another man stopped and started picking it up.
“It was over three hundred dollars,” Sempert said.
She said they could not find the source of the money though.
“It was about 10 minutes of discussing,” Sempert said. “What do we do with the money? There is nobody even here.”
Then, she said they made an agreement.
“We had decided to donate it to the church,” Sempert said.
They were going to donate it to a church just down the road.
“As I was pulling away, I actually saw the wallet in the street at that point farther down the road,” Sempert said.
Sempert said they opened it and found a BB&T bank card.
“We both kind of had a sigh of relief,” Sempert said.
It was a sigh of relief knowing, because she said she knows that would be a hard amount of money to lose.
“Winning $300 is great, but losing $300 is even worse,” Sempert said.
Shortly after taking the wallet and the money to BB&T and sharing the information on Facebook, Sempert said the bank found the owner.
“I don’t know who he was,” Sempert said.
She did not know him, but he lost it and they found it bringing her one final sigh of relief.
“I’m just glad he got his money back,” Sempert said.
We reached out to the bank to talk to the owner, but he is remaining anonymous at this time.
