Good Shepard and Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard host Empty Bowls fundraiser

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Good Shepherd Center and Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard hosted their first Empty Bowls event since the COVID-19 Pandemic. Proceeds from the event will go to both organization’s community outreach.

The ticketed event allowed participants to receive a bowl of soup served by local celebrities like State Representative Deb Butler or UNCW Chancellor Aswani Volety.

Participants also received a free handcrafted ceramic bowl. Executive director of the Good Sheppard Center Katrina Knight said the empty bowl is a symbolic reminder of those in our community who don’t have reliable access to food.

“It’s a reminder that too many of our neighbors, adults, and children, and seniors, and veterans are food insecure,” Knight said.

Knight said the return of the empty bowls event had a great turnout with more than fifteen hundred people buying tickets.
