Good Shepherd Center makes plans for 2024
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — One non-profit needs your help to support their mission helping others in the Cape Fear. ‘Good Shepherd Center’ has a goal to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and foster transition to housing.
With the holidays coming to a close, it doesn’t mean that the season of giving ends.
Good Shepherd Center Executive Director Katrina Knight said that while the extra help during the holidays is great, the organization is a yearlong resource that thrives on community effort.
“Volunteer support is needed all year round. We would not be open a single day if not for our volunteers,” Knight said.
Knight is encouraging folks of the Cape Fear to take this into consideration, and she anticipates good results.
“We have such a, I think, generous Cape Fear community and I can imagine a lot of people will be working that into their plans for the new year,” Knight said.
Knight said that the new year may also hold a groundbreaking of 32 apartments, supplying permanent supportive housing to members of the Cape Fear Community.
The apartments will sit on land that was donated to ‘Good Shepherd Center’ by the City of Wilmington.
“We know the need is great but more than ever, we’re determined to not just manage the problem or see people through their need for a safety net but return them to well-bring in our community,” Knight said.
You can help ‘Good Shepherd Center’ by donating canned goods, clothing, personal hygiene items, and more to their Wilmington campus located at 811 Martin St..
