Gordon Rd. in Wilmington prepares for four-lane expansion

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One of Wilmington’s busiest roads is gearing up for a major expansion. 

The NCDOT announced Gordon Rd. stretching from Market St. to I-40 will be expanded to four lanes with a median. 

The road will also have new sidewalk along with upgraded drainage systems and utility lines. 

Crews have already begun clearing the road ahead of construction starting in spring 2025. 

The project is estimated to cost $81 million dollars, with completion expected in the summer of 2029.
