Gov. Josh Stein discusses veteran services during Wilmington visit

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Governor Josh Stein made a stop in the Port City on Wednesday. It’s the first time Stein has visited Wilmington since his inauguration last month.

The newly elected governor was here to discuss how public services can better support veterans looking to enter the workforce.

Stein toured the New Hanover County office of NC Works, a state agency that provides resources for job seekers.

Stein was also joined by local elected leaders for a roundtable discussion.

He said his office is committed to expanding services for veterans state-wide.

“We’re one of the most veteran friendly states in the country. We want to make that claim true, and the way you do that is you help veterans overcome whatever challenge they’re facing. Some of them it’s looking for a job, some of it’s other kinds of services; health care, housing,” he said.

A large part of Stein’s gubernatorial campaign was an appeal to North Carolina veterans, of which there are more than 600,000 who live in the state—making North Carolina the 5th most populous state for veterans.
