RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — Governor Josh Stein vetoed three bills Friday, including two aimed at cracking down on illegal immigration.

The other one involves removing concealed carry regulations, pushing what republicans call constitutional carry.

Stein says that bill, which would lower the age to carry a concealed weapon from 21 to 18, would make the job of a law enforcement officer more difficult and less safe.

On immigration, Stein says Senate Bill 153 takes state law enforcement officers away from their existing duties and forces them to act as federal immigration agents. Stein claims house bill 318 is unconstitutional.

It requires sheriffs to detain people for up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released solely based on a suspected immigration violation. Stein says it violates a fourth circuit court ruling.
