Governor Josh Stein visits Wilmington for the AFL-CIO convention

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — “It’s our talented work force with the skills and experiences that you bring to the table that are helping to power our state forward,” says Governor Stein.

Governor Josh Stein addressed the AFL-CIO convention in Wilmington Wednesday afternoon.

During his speech, the governor highlighted what he says his office is doing to support workers across the Tar Heel state.

“We are pushing to cut taxes for working families, and lower the cost of housing, electricity, and childcare,” said Stein.

In addition to creating good-paying jobs for displaced workers, Stein talked about what he’s doing to help those looking for employment.

“…our office of State Human Resources started a program called ‘Join NC’ to connect displaced federal workers with available state jobs. We want to give them an opportunity to succeed here in North Carolina, it’s about doing it differently, rather than turning our back on workers, we celebrate them and give them our respect,” said Stein.

More than 350 people are attending the two-day event which ends Friday.
