Grand Jury indicts former Thomas Academy employee on sex crimes

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WWAY) — A former Thomas Academy employee has been indicted on sex crime charges on Tuesday.
In November, Jody Watts, 49, was fired from Thomas Academy and charged with indecent liberties with a student and first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
On Tuesday, Watts was booked again with nearly a half dozen first and third degree sexual exploitation of a minor charges.
A spokesperson for the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says it’s a true bill of indictment.
According to court records, a grand jury indicted Watts last month, claiming sufficient evidence exists to move forward with the case.
