Grand opening held for nCino Sports Park in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The nCino Sports Park had its grand opening earlier this morning.

The newly expanded park on Sutton Steam Plant Road sits on the site of an old landfill and has 11 athletic fields.

One of the fields is built with synthetic turf, five are lit for night play, and four others have the infrastructure in place for future lighting.

The park also has a new 2600 sq ft. restroom and concessions building.

The park is managed by the Wilmington Hammerheads Youth Soccer Club under an agreement with the city.

Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo said the park is made possible by Wilmington Hammerheads, who donated the land, nCino, which helped fund the project, and the citizens of Wilmington, who voted for the parks bond in 2016.

“The testament goes to everybody that was involved in this project and helped make this happen, but most importantly, as I’ve said earlier, the citizens of this community that went to the polls to support this project is probably the most important component because without them, we could not have done it,” Saffo said.

The sports park will host its first big event this weekend with an all-girls national soccer tournament.
