Grand Strand beaches will get $29 million for beach renourishment

Who doesn’t love finding a great shell while walking along our beaches? More shells should be rolling on to our shores. The federal government is granting $29 million to pay for beachfront renourishment projects along the Grand Strand.

A spokesperson with the City of Myrtle Beach says the announcement is a pleasant surprise. The money will repair damages caused by recent natural disasters like Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Irma. Spokesman, Mark Kruea says because of the funding, the city will have to pay less money, which is something they can’t complain about.

“The beach is our primary natural resource. I mean it’s in the name of the city, Myrtle Beach for example, so it’s extremely important to us. That’s why people come here, and we want to make sure that beach is there and in best shape as it possibly can be,” said Kruea.
