Wilmington Police surprise ‘Grandma’ with birthday party

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Lucille Williams also known as Grandma received the surprise of a lifetime for her 91st birthday today.

Williams lives in the Hillcrest community and has captured the hearts of Wilmington Police Department’s Housing Unit officers who patrol the neighborhood. From neighborhood kids, to the police officers, everyone refers to Williams as “Grandma.”

Officers provided a custom-made cake, gifts, and balloons to celebrate.

“This is a big surprise, I’ve never had this, never, never, never, never even had no cake cooked for my birthday,” said Williams.

She says the officers are just like family and they always swing by her house to check on her.
