Grassroots group holds town hall for Rep. Rouzer constituents

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A unique town hall for US Representative David Rouzer was held Friday evening at Cape Fear Community College.

The “Where is Rouzer” town hall was held to allow constituents of the area Rouzer represents to take part in a town hall.

Rouzer, who was invited to the event, but did not make an appearance, has not held a town hall since 2017.

The event was organized by a grassroots group called Indivisible Wilmington.

At one point, two comedians wearing large cardboard faces of Rouzer and Senator Thom Tillis addressed the crowd.

State Representative Deb Butler also spoke at the event and said politicians shouldn’t be afraid to take part in town halls, even if they receive death threats like Tillis says he’s received.

“If you’re a public figure, you get those,” Butler said. “I’ve had many myself. You just use caution and you know, be smart and you continue to serve the people. Or you get out of the way and let someone else who’s willing to engage do your job for you.”

More than 450 people showed up for the event, with around 150 of them turned away due to capacity limits.

WWAY reached out to Representative Rouzer for comment but has not heard back.
