Great weather for beach visitors over Memorial Day weekend
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — It’s no surprise that our coast was a hot spot this weekend. People traveled from all over to soak some sun at area beaches.
Timothy Mcauliffe spent Memorial Day at Wrightsville Beach with his family. Him and his son went surfing for a bit.
“You just can’t beat it on a day like today,”Mcaullife said. “We got beautiful weather. I just love Wilmington.”
Many describe this weekend as the unofficial kick off to summer. Thousands of people like Caleb Anderson and Alex Coats traveled across the state to have fun day along the coast.
“The beach is the perfect place to start any summer off,” Coats said. “I mean come on, you have the sun, sand, the water. It’s perfect.”
Thanks to the nice weather the beaches stayed packed which means empty parking spots were hard to come by.
“We came out a little earlier today to try and beat the crowd,” Anderson said.
Michael Draper drove into town just for the day. This was his first time at Wrightsville Beach and his first visiting the shore in nearly three years.
“You got the breeze, the babes, the sand,” Draper said. “It’s killer.”
Summer official starts on June 21.
