Groundbreaking ceremony held for new lower Cape Fear water main
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new water main that will bring more water to our area.
The Local Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority broke ground on a new raw water main at the Pender County Water Treatment Plant Friday.
The pipe will run parallel to the current water main, greatly expanding the area’s access to water as new homes and businesses are built.
Executive Vice President Tim Holloman said having two separate mains will also allow for faster, cheaper repairs.
“To give an example, now line repair, if it’s an emergency, costs upwards of three million dollars to repair. Once the second line is in, it will be between two and four hundred thousand dollars to repair. So it also minimizes repair costs as well,” Holloman said.
Holloman added the main is scheduled for completion in 2026, with some sections potentially opening in 2027.
