Groundbreaking held for new additions to Olsen Park
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Lots of people gathered in New Hanover County this morning to break ground on some new improvements coming to Olsen Park.
Phase II of Olsen Park will include an all-purpose field, four pickle ball courts, a new walking trail, and expanded parking.
Olsen Park was originally built using land donated by the Olsen family, and through a parks bond that voters approved in 2006.
Wilmington Parks and Recreation Director Amy Beatty says Phase II is made possible by another parks bond, that passed overwhelmingly in 2016.
“We hear from citizens all the time about green space preservation, urban forestry preservation, and new parks and recreation facilities, and we’ve been really fortunate to have city leadership, and the public supporting those things over the last 20 years,” she said.
Beatty says construction will take around 10 months, with an expected opening sometime in January.
