Habitat breaks ground on 4 new homes in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Habitat for Humanity celebrated the groundbreaking for not one, two or three but four upcoming houses Sunday.
The project is called “4 on 15,” which refers to the corner of 15th Street and Ann Street in Wilmington.
Habitat teamed up with the congregation of St. Andrew’s Covenant Presbyterian Church sponsor one of these houses. Despite the gloomy day, the future is looking very bright for the recipients.
“We thought one house? That’s great!” church elder Kimberly Exum said. “And then Florence came with the need for more affordable housing, so we found out the city had approved four houses on this double lot, and we were really excited to say, ‘Yes, we’ve got to come along and make sure this happens.'”
Habitat Executive Director Steve Spain says that this is the largest groundbreaking audience that he has witnessed to date.
