Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on partner family neighborhood
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity broke ground on three new homes for partner families Monday.
The homes are part of a new subdivision off Highland Hills Drive, which will eventually include 10 houses, a park, and a basketball court.
Habitat builds homes with families who meet certain requirements—including hundreds of volunteer hours—and offers an affordable fixed 3% mortgage.
Executive Director Jason Gaver says this is the first time they’ve developed a full neighborhood.
“What we realized is that the future in this county, with rising prices and land becoming harder and harder to find at an affordable price, that the future for us is going to be purchasing larger pieces of land and really making true communities,” he said.
Gaver says the homeownership program will open to eight families this year, with applications opening in the third week of August.
