Haiti Awake continues to help rebuild

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One local organization continues to help those affected by Hurricane Matthew, one trip at a time.

President of Haiti Awake, Becky Graves returned from Haiti last week and says much more work needs to be done. Haiti Awake along with Mission Made Jewelry hosted an event in October to raise money for Hurricane Matthew victims.

Together the two organizations raised $1,300 for hurricane relief. Graves says they have been able to help several families so far, but the devastation has been overwhelming.

“I stood there last week and just looked at all the houses that were down, still. And there was that moment of we can’t fix all of this, and we can’t. We cannot fix all of this. But we can make the difference in the life of one family, one individual,” Graves said.

Graves is heading back to Haiti January 20th until the end of the month to continue rebuilding communities.
