WILMINGTON, NC (HAMMERHEADS) — Wilmington Hammerheads FC announce the addition of local goalie, Sam Williams, for their 20th season.
Williams joins the Hammerheads for his first season after college career playing with UNCW. During his 2014 season Williams started in six matches as a junior, posting a 0.80 goals against average with a .706 save percentage. He recorded three shutouts and made season-high saves in both matches against James Madison. Throughout William’s career at UNCW, he recorded nearly 2,000 minutes in the net, with over 56 saves. William’s comes to the Hammerheads as a great addition to the goalkeeping core. Assistant and Goalkeeper Coach, Matt Glaeser, stated, “He is a technically sound player, who is extremely hard working. He will provide depth for us at the goalkeeper position.”
Williams chimed in, “Being from North Carolina and playing at UNCW all these years, makes becoming a part of the Hammerheads personal.” He continued, “It has a surreal feeling being a part of the team I’ve watched for years, but I am looking forward to growing with them. Playing for head coach Mark Briggs is an honor and I know I will learn a lot from him and Matt and the rest of the team.”
