Hampstead American Legion Post 167 to host live comedy event

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — If you enjoy live comedy acts, American Legion Post 167 will be hosting an event next weekend in Hampstead.

Laughter, The Best Medicine will feature three local comedians — Timmy Sherill (Owner of Dead Crow Comedy Room), Louis Bishop (DJ on CB radio show) and Drew Harrison (Port City’s Top Comic). Music will be provided by the group, Two Picky Guys.

Post 167 hosts a number of events like this throughout the year to raise money for a variety of outreach initiatives.

“We do a lot of things in the community like Tar Heel Boys’ State where we send one boy or more each year to study how the government works,” American Legion Post 167 Commander Roger Kersey said. “We also sponsor a Boy Scout Troop and Club Pack at our post.”

Post 167 also hosts two community events annually on Memorial Day and Veterans Day featuring speakers and an honor guard.

According to their website, the American Legion is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization aimed at advocating patriotism across the U.S. through diverse programs and member benefits.

Locally, American Legion groups like Post 167 are on the front lines, helping veterans who are transitioning back to civilian life following a deployment or active tour of duty.

“If they have problems with their discharge or medial records, we’ll find the right folks to help them,” said American Legion Post 167 Adjutant J.P. Horvat. “When I joined the American Legion, I wanted to help but now I’m also helping myself by learning all this good stuff.”

Laughter, The Best Medicine be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 6-11 p.m. at American Legion Post 167 located at 16660 Highway 17 North in Hampstead.

Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple. Free wine and beer will be provided by Bills Front Porch Pub & Brewery in Wilmington.
