Haunted house to donate some proceeds to teen hit by car after being chased
BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A haunted house in Clarkton is going to donate a portion of its proceeds to a young man hit by a car after being chased by one of the actors this weekend.
Frankie Burney with Clarkton DYB Haunted House said it happened Saturday night around 11:30 p.m.
Burney said the victim is about 15 or 16 and the actor is 16. He said they are actually friends who go to school together. He said the kid that got hit did not actually go through the house that night. Burney said the boy and his family and friends were standing in the parking lot.
Burney said the actors were in the middle of a grand finale where they chase a group out into the parking lot. He said they have an area roped off where the actors are supposed to run to at the end. Burney said the actor noticed his friend in the parking lot and started messing around. He said the boy did chase his friend a little further than allowed. Burney said the victim continued to run. He said he ran about 150 yards down the road from the house and ran into the road. He said the actor started yelling telling his friend to stop and come back.
Burney said a car did not hit him head on, but the boy ran into the car. He said he hit the passenger side of the car. He said the victim is going to be okay. Burney said his mom said he should be released sometime today or tomorrow. Burney said he is just banged up.
“We are just asking people to pray for everybody involved,” Burney said. “The guy who was chasing him is hurting pretty bad mentally.”
Burney said this was all just an accident and there was no ill intent. He also said half of the actors are volunteer firefighters and immediately went down to help the victim.
“We got a young man that’s hurting pretty bad physically and a young man that’s hurting pretty bad mentally,” Burney said.
Burney said they thought about not running the house tonight, but the victim’s mom told him it was okay. Burney said half of the proceeds taken in tonight will go to the family to help with gas, food, and expenses while the boy is in the hospital.
