Health expert shares safety tips for returning to the beach or pool
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As the weather continues to warm and schools let out for the summer, families across the region will be returning to pools and beaches.
Health experts are hoping to help you stay safe this year.
Novant Health Injury and Violence Prevention Coordinator Toni Scollins said there are several steps you can take to protect yourself and your family.
She said watch your intake of alcohol, wear sunscreen, and avoid swimming alone. Scollins added you should always watch your children in the water.
“We really want to urge adults to keep a close eye on children, and also to know that floaties, arm floats, and the floats that go around the body to not substitute for a life vest,” she said.
According to the CDC, drowning is the most common cause of death for children ages one to four.
