WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Helping Hands of the Cape Fear announced their founder died.

Jamie Stokley, a life-long Wilmington resident, died unexpectedly at the age of 40-years-old.

The home health care organization says Stokley was known for her compassion, tenacity, and devotion to those in need.

They add she dedicated her life to providing care for individuals with nowhere else to go. Stokley offered respite housing for unsheltered people recovering from illness or hospitalization.

Stokley was a part of the National Patient Advocacy Foundation and served as a member of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council. She had 15 years of experience in home care with a dual bachelor’s degree in business and healthcare administration.

The organization says funeral arrangements are pending.
