BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the Cape Fear coast.

This indicates a high risk of rip currents and dangerous water conditions. Everyone should stay out of the water, regardless of your swimming ability.

If you find yourself trapped in a rip current, don’t fight it. Swim parallel to the shore until you’re out of it then make your way back to land.

The National Weather Service says Wednesday and Thursday will also carry a higher risk of rip currents before conditions slowly improve Friday into the weekend.

Water temperatures along the coast are still quite chilly, sitting in the upper 50s.
