High school football season kicks off with Jamboree, fans rejoice
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The high school football season kicked off Friday and Legion Stadium was filled with eager football fans. A number of Cape Fear area teams took the field to get their season into gear. The scrimmages may have been short but fans weren’t in short supply. The players took the field in a game atmosphere for the first time this year, and so did the cheerleaders.
Farris Carter and Jade Green are senior cheerleaders at West Brunswick High School. They said this season for them is bittersweet.
“I kinda have mixed emotions. I’m kinda upset, it’s my last year. But I’m really excited to be cheering for the team this year so I hope we do good,” said Carter.
“I’m upset, because I’ve been cheering for a long time, but I’m looking forward to this year’s season, I know it will be really good and I’m looking forward to cheering for our boys and doing what I do best,” said Green.
Ten teams played tonight. Check out the 5th Quarter for highlights of Friday night’s Jamboree.
