Highlights from Wells Fargo Championship Pro-Am Tournament
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wells Fargo Championship Pro-Am Tournament action is in the books.
On Wednesday, the pros got one more chance to tune up and learn the course at Eagle Point Golf Club before round one begins Thursday.
The golfers continue to praise the course, including 10th ranked golfer Adam Scott.
“I’m working hard to figure it out, seeing some firm greens really excites me because we don’t often get that,” Scott said. “Some control is going to be needed and I’m looking forward to the challenge of a new venue for sure.”
As the golfers worked through the learning every angle of the course, one golfer got a hole in one opportunity.
Kevin Smith was paired with number one golfer in the world, Dustin Johnson. On Wednesday, he got the chance to see what it’s like to play under the spotlight.
“There’s a lot of people around,” Smith said. “I mean, the crowd was swelling. It was fun. I was able to knock one in from a bunker on fifteen and the crowd went crazy, a big grandstand of people.”
The crowd also went crazy as Johnson worked his way through the course with relative ease, shooting a three under par in his first full 18 at Eagle Point.
“Feeling good, healthy, so I can’t complain,” Johnson said. “Obviously, I haven’t played much or done a whole lot of practicing but the body is all good. Glad to be back out playing again.”
Johnson, Scott and the rest of the field will now set their focus on playing in, and hopefully winning, the Wells Fargo Championship.
