HISTORIC HOME TOUR: Alvy R. Hardwick House

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Azalea Festival Historic home tour preview continues with a cute and quaint house at 102 Borden Avenue in Wilmington.

Built in 1923, the Alvy R. Hardwick house is a one-of-a-kind and true craftsman. The owners, Elaine and Pat Hogan, said they bought the home from a friend, and the parents/in-laws live next door.

Elaine said the hard-wood floors, stately fireplace and large windows are original to the home. While the Hogans have had to do a lot of renovations, Elaine said they'll never change their cozy and functional booth in the kitchen.

"That was one feature of the house that my father told us, you can never change this booth. It was his favorite part of the house, and I think it makes it seem like kind of a grandma house. I think it's the part that the kids enjoy, and almost everyone who walks into the house is delighted to see," Elaine said.

Elaine added that she loves the neighborhood she lives in saying that her home is one of many old homes that make it very unique and inviting.

The Historic Home Tour is Saturday, April 11 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, April 12 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are Tickets $25 in advance, and $30 on the day of the event. The ribbon cutting will be at the MacRae-Willard House at 520 Orange Street on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Click here for more information.
