HISTORIC HOME TOUR: Hovis House
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There's another colorful house on the Azalea Festival Historic Home Tour that's very typical of Wilmington. The house is located at 326 S. 4th Street in downtown Wilmington.
The Hovis house is an example of a two-story Italianate wood frame house built between 1870 and 1880. It's narrow and tall with a full front porch, and a raised brick basement. It has coral siding with teal shutters.
According to the Azalea Festival's website, the house has also served as a drug store, and a doctor's office. F. C. Miller had a pharmacy and drug store in it from at least 1879 to 1889, and it served as a doctor’s office and pharmacy afterward while C. H. and Wilhelmina Dock owned it. The current owners are Larry and Alice Hovis.
The Historic Home Tour is Saturday, April 11 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, April 12 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are Tickets $25 in advance, and $30 on the day of the event. The ribbon cutting will be at the MacRae-Willard House at 520 Orange Street on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Click here for more information.
According to the Azalea Festival's website, the North Carolina Azalea Festival Home Tour is an annual event held by the Historic Wilmington Foundation. Proceeds from the Home Tour will advance the Historic Wilmington Foundation’s efforts to protect and preserve the irreplaceable historic resources of Wilmington and the Lower Cape Fear region.
