HISTORIC HOME TOUR: Martin Stover House
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Azalea Festival Historic Home Tour features a cheery, and colorful house that, for a time, was not that way at all.
Gay Adair said when she bought the Martin Stover house at 1813 Princess Street in Wilmington, it was close to being condemned. Now, you'd never know by looking at it. Adair said she had to renovate nearly all of the home that was built in 1914, according to the Azalea Festival website. She also added Victorian and early-20th century touches to the interior decorating while keeping a modern and fun flair.
According to the Azalea Festival's website, Martin L. Stover and wife Georgia McLeod Stover, the house was designed by architect Burett H. Stephens. A foursquare style with beveled siding on first level and cedar shakes on second level.
The Historic Home Tour is Saturday, April 11 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, April 12 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are Tickets $25 in advance, and $30 on the day of the event. According to the Azalea Festival's website, the North Carolina Azalea Festival Home Tour is an annual event held by the Historic Wilmington Foundation. Proceeds from the Home Tour will advance the Historic Wilmington Foundation’s efforts to protect and preserve the irreplaceable historic resources of Wilmington and the Lower Cape Fear region. Since 1966, the foundation has successfully saved more than 200 historic properties from demolition.
