HISTORIC HOME TOUR: The Brickhouse Cottage
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tucked in-between two two-story homes, you'll find a sweet one-story house on the Azalea Festival Historic Home Tour. The Azalea Festival's website said around 1860, Captain Nathan Brickhouse built the cottage at 503 South Front Street with the full-width and inviting front porch.
Brickhouse was a machinist with Hart and Bailey Iron Works. He lived in the cottage with his wife Nancy Dicksey. When he died in 1869, he left the property to his wife and five children. His daughter Mary Brickhouse Hall moved the dwelling to the south portion of the lot in 1908. It stayed in the family until 1942.
Mary Margart Konz is the current owner. Even though it's more than 150 years old, you'll find it looks fresh and modern.
The Historic Home Tour is Saturday, April 11 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, April 12 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are Tickets $25 in advance, and $30 on the day of the event.
