Historical marker unveiled at Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A new historical marker now stands at Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site.
The Brunswick Town chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted a dedication ceremony Friday morning.
The marker was funded through a grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. The foundation has placed more than 2,600 historic markers in 49 states.
This marker honors local patriots in Brunswick County who fought during the American Revolution.
“Literally on the night of July 18th, 1775, 500 to 800 patriots left here, and when they left to go to Fort Johnston, they are taking those first steps not just to defiance,” said Site Manager Jim McKee.
McKee said continued research is helping uncover more about Brunswick Town’s role in early American history.
