Hoggard football fans cheer for chance to win thousands

As students across the Cape Fear cheer for their football teams Friday night some fans were cheering for something more, a chance to win money. Hoggard football fans screamed their heads off at the Hoggard versus Clinton football game all in hopes of winning $25,000 for their school.

Hoggard is one of eight schools nationwide participating in US Cellular’s “Battle of the Stands” competition. At half time the crowd noise was measured.

Allison Jones, a Hoggard football fan, says they doesn’t need a $25,000 prize to get loud for her team but it’s a plus.

“It’s a good night for Friday night football here at Hoggard High School, good crowd out and they are ready to support their Hoggard Vikings and hopefully we can bring back not just a win but twenty five thousand dollars as well,” said Jones.

Hoggard High School fans are able to track their school online and see how they rank against the other competing schools.

At the end of the competition in November the winning school will be named.
