Hoggard football player diagnosed with meningitis
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County Schools spokeswoman said a high school football player has contracted meningitis.
According to Valita Quattlebaum, one case was confirmed last week with a student at Hoggard High School. She said there has only been one case confirmed and this student was not contagious. Quattlebaum said parents on the football team were notified of the diagnoses via letter.
She said while the New Hanover County Health Department is investigating, the school system took extra precautions and cleaned all of the equipment in the football field house and other areas of the school. She said there was no football practice last week.
There’s no word on where they believe the child contracted the illness.
