Holden Beach man held without bond in wife’s murder

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — The GPS inside a Ford f150 is what led investigators to Sampson County, where the body of Judy Brock Brown was found on Wednesday.

That’s what prosecutors revealed during a court appearance in Brunswick County for her husband, Phillip Harry Brock, 71, who is charged with her murder.

“She’s a very talented lady. Very sweet. Very smart. Loved by everybody,” Gayle Todd said.

Those who knew her had nothing but good things to say about Judy Brock. Todd spent years alongside Brock in the Holden Beach Beautification Club.

Todd never saw this coming, and she’s not the only one.

“We’ve been incorporated since 1969 and this is the first case we’ve had like this in 50 years, since the town has been incorporated,” said Holden Beach Police Captain Jeremy Dixon.

Dixon says the town has never had a murder until now.

Prosecutor Glenn Emery say Phillip Brock called in the Silver Alert for his wife over the weekend, but Judy Brock did not have a cognitive impairment. They believe Brock called in the alert to throw them off.

Emery said Brock disabled the GPS on his phone and tried to do the same thing on his truck.

“We were able to use GPS to track the vehicle, which placed him in Sampson County, where he reported his wife missing,” Dixon said.

Investigators placed Brock’s truck in Sampson County on Friday, which is the same day Brock said he last saw his wife.

Dixon says this was the same wooded area where investigators found Judy Brock’s body five days after her husband reported her missing.

Friends are still in disbelief.

“Very good actor,” Todd said. “Like I said, he was very distraught. Very upset. And he would make you cry when we talked to him. He was very upset.”

According to online records, Phillip Brock was a registered forester with the State of North Carolina.

Brock is charged with first degree murder. He will remain in jail without bond. A probable cause hearing is set for April 2.
