Holden Beach resident files lawsuit against town’s Board of Commissioners
HOLDEN BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A lawsuit has been filed against the Board of Commissioners of the town of Holden Beach.
Resident Lisa Ragland filed the suit in Brunswick County Superior Court.
The case looks to reverse recent actions taken by the board.
The suit claims the board did not meet the quorum provision, which states a majority of the board must be present during meetings.
Only three of the town’s six board members attended a meeting at the end of January, at which the board voted twice on the town’s pier.
According to the suit, this violated state law.
Along with reversing those decisions, the suit also says the town’s charter needs to be changed to align with state law.
Mayor Alan Holden was unavailable to speak, and other board members did not respond to WWAY’s request for comment.
