Homemade boat washes up on Oak Island beach

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — A homemade boat washed up on an Oak Island Beach during Hurricane Matthew.

The Coast Guard said people reported seeing the boat Sunday morning around 11 a.m. The boat looks to be homemade out of water bottles, tree branches, tarp, fence and other items.

The Coast Guard said based on writing on the material, the boat could be from Cuba, but they do not know for sure.

Officials also said the boat was severely damaged and it does not appear that it was piloted to the beach.
