Hope in every step: Community rallies at Walk to End Alzheimer’s

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — More than a thousand participants gathered in Wrightsville Beach for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, demonstrating their support for those affected by the disease.

Hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association – Eastern North Carolina Chapter, the event aimed to be a beacon of hope for families facing this challenge. Participants carried colorful flowers, each hue symbolizing a personal connection to Alzheimer’s.

Local organizations also participated, providing families with valuable resources to support them on their journeys.

Christine John-Fuller, Executive Director of the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, highlighted the event’s significance beyond fundraising. “To help put a face to the disease. People carrying the blue flower here today are living with the disease, and we want people to understand that there is life beyond a diagnosis. While this is a life-diminishing disease, we are here to give them quality of life and dignity. Now that we have two FDA-approved treatments that slow the progression of the disease, we can offer families more time together than ever before.”

This year’s fundraising goal was set at $200,000, which would mark a record for the event. Donations will continue to be accepted through December 31st.
