Horse with WPD Mounted Unit to retire this month

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An officer with Wilmington Police Department’s mounted unit is set to retire later this month.
Officer Comet has been with the WPD Mounted Patrol Unit for 20 years.
Officer Comet made news in 2018 when he underwent surgery to remove a melanoma tumor. He was out of work for about a month, but made a full recovery.
On Tuesday night, Wilmington City Council will vote on a resolution to release ownership of the horse to retired Mounted Officer Jon Gordon.
