House fire in Bayshore area sends two to the hospital

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Two people were sent to the hospital early Friday morning following a fire in New Hanover County.
It happened around 7:30 am in the upper Bayshore area. When New Hanover Fire Rescue arrived, flames and smoke were visible.
Fire crews say there aren’t any hydrants in this area, so five tankers carried water to the scene from New Hanover County and Pender County fire departments.
The fire was in the attic space as well as the first floor. Traffic was shut down in the area. The fire is being investigated by the New Hanover County Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire was under control in an hour. Crews left the scene at 11:15 am.
Two elderly people were taken to the hospital, one for cautionary purposes and the other for smoke inhalation. The Red Cross has responded to provide aid.
