How construction in Ocean Gate Plaza is negatively impacting a local business
LELAND, NC (WWAY)–With construction underway at Ocean Gate Plaza in Leland, one business is feeling the negative impacts of it. Construction began on Tuesday at the Intersection at Ocean Gate Plaza and New Pointe Boulevard. The goal of the project is to include new sidewalks, crosswalks, street signage, and improve overall safety.
While the project aims to help with traffic congestion in the area, Alejandra Montes, who is the assistant manager at San Felipe restaurant, says its temporarily causing less foot traffic entering the business.
“It’s been slow for lunch time. People don’t want to take the extra mile to come over here and eat. It has affected the business,” said Montes.
Construction on this new traffic pattern is expected to be completed by May.
