Humpday Health: Booty Barre workout

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Looking for a fun way to get in shape for beach season? Booty Barre could come to the rescue.

“This is a barre-specific class that is yoga, pilates and barre combined,” said instructor Amy McCauley.

But you don’t have to be a ballerina to get a lot out of this exercise.

“This one I call the athletic female barre class. I find that I get a lot more of the gym girls into this class than I do the ballerina types,” McCauley said.

She said the class predominately attracts women, but she does see some guys from time to time.

“I have anywhere from a 20-year-old to a 60-year-old doing this class. And we do have some men that really like it. We have a rock star in town named Michael who does the Booty Barre class and is actually an instructor,” said McCauley.

She said you don’t really need any special equipment, but you should come ready to work.

“Bring a towel, bring water, bring a ready to go game face. This is not an easy class by no means,” said McCauley.

But never fear first timers, McCauley has a very hands on approach.

“I’m going to make sure you’re in the right position, you’re forms good. You’re never going to get to a point where I’m letting you go bad work.” McCauley said. “You gain flexibility. We work a lot on getting lifts in the legs and stretching the hamstrings and the quads. And you get a lot of core strength, which is really deep work in your abdominal muscles. And then you also gain a whole lot of strength in your glutes because we work a whole lot of booty in this class.”
