Humpday Health: Getting active with Wrightsville Beach Parks and Rec

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The holidays are long gone and people are putting their New Year’s resolutions to work.

A perfect place to get some exercise is Wrightsville Beach and the town’s Parks and Recreation department has lots of options for you to get involved.

“Beach season is just a few months away, hopefully, just a few weeks away, so it’s a good time to exercise, get yourself beach body ready,” said Katie Ryan, the recreation program supervisor with Wrightsville Beach Parks and Recreation.

The New Year has begun and you might be thinking of ways to get into shape.

Why not head to Wrightsville Beach to get started?

The town’s Parks and Recreation department puts on a variety of classes to help people get active, like yoga, Zumba, low-impact aerobics, and more.

“We do gear the programs for what the Wrightsville Beach needs are, but everyone is welcome to attend and we look forward to anyone participating,” said Ryan.

It’s easy to get involved and start exercising.

“To sign up, we ask that anyone come into the park office to fill out a registration form and then, most classes are done on a token basis, so you come into the park office and purchase your tokens and then you pay the instructor with a token for each class,” said Ryan.

Wrightsville Beach residents do have one perk; tokens are a little cheaper for them.

If a class isn’t your speed, the Wrightsville Beach Park has plenty of options for exercise.

“You can start here and walk the loop, you can play basketball, there’s a tennis back wall, there’s tennis courts, pickleball courts. We also have fitness equipment around the park that are very highly used. It’s just a great way, especially on a gorgeous day, to come out to the park and start your own exercise program,” said Ryan.

Coming up the second Saturday of February, the town will be holding a 5K and 10K Valentine Run.
